Two brothers have been jailed after a judge ruled that the sentence, they received in April this year was unduly lenient at a court of appeal after being referred by the Solicitor General to the Unduly Lenient Sentences scheme.

Kenneth Brown, 27, and Shaun Brown, 25, both of Winmoss Drive, Liverpool were on Thursday 28 June sentenced to three years six months for attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

In April this year they had been given suspended sentences for the offence.

In October 2022, Kenneth and Shaun subjected the victim to a three minute brutal attack on Lowther Street, Carlisle, kicking and stamping on his head over 10 times leaving him with a broken nose, hand and significant cuts and bruises.

Both were identified as being involved in the incident following a CCTV appeal by police and arrested by officers in Merseyside.

Speaking on the appeal Detective Constable Nick Mandale said “We welcome the revised sentences.

“Kenneth and Shaun subjected the victim to a brutal attack and now will be reflecting on their actions in prison.

“Such an attack could have killed the victim but luckily, he did not sustain more serious life changing injuries.
