A man from Carlisle has been jailed for offences including rape today (April 11) at Carlisle Crown Court.
Brian Watson, 22, of Marks Avenue, Carlisle was jailed for 18 years after being found guilty at a trial in February for four offences of rape, non-fatal strangulation and assault by penetration.
The offences occurred in October 2021, June 2022 and July 2024 against three victims in north Cumbria.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Josh Daniel of Cumberland CID said “Watson was initially charged and remanded for offences against two victims, when an update issued by the constabulary of his charges saw a further victim come forward.
“It is understandably extremely difficult for victims of rape to talk about what happened to them, but by coming forward it has enabled us to bring Watson to justice and empowered other victims to report.
“I would encourage anyone who has been victim to a sexual offence to contact police so that our officers can investigate, and you will be supported.
“Support is available, and the Constabulary works closely with trusted partner agencies to provide the appropriate support which is tailored to an individual’s circumstances."
