Another man has been given a criminal behaviour order to protect local businesses.

The order was secured on 14 August against Nicholas Meekley, 43, of Pearl Road, Salterbeck for two years, the conditions are Meekley must not:

  • Enter any shops or premises that are members of the Workington Schemelink or who display the Schemelink sign at any time.
  • Enter any Asda, Workington
  • Enter Halfords, Workington
  • Enter B&Q, Workington
  • Enter any Spar, Workington
  • Enter Aldi, Workington
  • Enter Dunmail Park, Workington
  • Enter McColls (now Morrison daily) Church Road, Workington

The Criminal Behaviour Order follows Meekley pleading guilty to three offences of shoplifting and possession of an offensive weapon, the offences were committed in June to July 2024. 

He was given a fine and a yearlong community order and 20-day rehabilitation.

A police spokesperson said: “This Criminal Behaviour Order will prevent Meekley from further criminality and help protect business owners and local residents.

“I would encourage anyone who witnesses the terms of such a court order being broken to contact the police immediately.

"The punishment for breaking the terms of a CBO can be up to five years in prison.”

Anyone who witnesses Nicolas Meekley breaching the terms of his CBO should contact the police.
