A man has received an interim Violent Offender Order (VOO) to prevent his offending in Whitehaven and Workington.

Jordan Starkey, 32, of no fixed address was given the order on Friday 9 August.

The order will be in place until 6 December 2024 when the case will be heard for a full order.

The order has the following conditions:

  • Starkey must not be in any public place within the defined boundaries (as defined by the attached two maps) between the hours of 20:00 hours and 05:00 hours on any day of the week (public place is a specified place including anywhere except a private residential dwelling or private hotel room).
  • He must also not be in company with or have contact with four named persons.

A breach of the terms of a VOO, or failure to comply with the notification requirements of a VOO, constitutes a criminal offence punishable by five years’ imprisonment.

Speaking on the order Inspector Richard Smillie of Copeland Neighbourhood Policing Team said “We are pleased that we were successful in securing this order against Starkey.

“These conditions will assist us in protecting the public from Starkey’s offending during the night-time economy in Whitehaven and Workington.

“We will pursue him if he continues with his violent behaviour and breaches the terms of this order.

“We would encourage anyone who witnesses the terms of such a court order being broken to contact the police immediately.”

Anyone who witnesses Jordan Starkey breaching the terms of his Violent Offender Order (VOO) should contact the police.
