Don’t drink and ride a scooter.
As part of Operation Spotlight – our dedicated Fatal Four op running throughout April – our officers responded to a report of someone riding a scooter/moped erratically in Smithfield, near Carlisle on Saturday night.
The caller suspected they may be drunk.
Officers attended, located the scooter outside a property and arrested the suspected rider who then failed to provide a specimen for analysis and was arrested and charged. He is due in court later this month.
A further arrest occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Barrow when officers spotted a car swerving in the road. The driver then got out of the car and ran before officers caught up with him.
He failed a breath test and was arrested for drink driving.
He’s since been charged with drink driving and possession of a Class A drug (cocaine) and is due in court later this month.
This is the latest of our Operation Spotlight arrests targeting the Fatal Four - speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs.
