Op Spotlight is a national month-long operation targeting the Fatal Four - speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs.
Here in Cumbria we’re likely to surpass 100 Op Spotlight arrests by the end of the month.
In Maryport yesterday morning (22 April), officers stopped a car at 8.30am after suspecting the driver may be under the influence.
The driver failed a roadside drugs wipe for cocaine and cannabis and was arrested. He was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs following a search of this vehicle.
He was released under investigation to allow time for blood test results.
Officers also stopped a car in Ulverston yesterday as the driver had no licence and no insurance. He also failed a roadside drugs wipe for cannabis.
The driver was subsequently charged with driving without a license, driving without insurance and failure to provide a specimen for analysis, whilst in custody.
He is due in court next month.
