Yesterday (23 April) we arrested four drivers following stops on the M6 near Carlisle as we continue to target drug drivers as part of our Operation Spotlight work focusing on the Fatal Four.

 

1.50pm – van driver from Lancashire stopped on M6 north of Carlisle. He failed a drugs wipe for cannabis and was arrested. He’s been charged with drug driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He is due in court next month.


2.45pm - we stopped a driver on the M6 south of Carlisle and arrested him on suspicion of drug driving after he failed a drugs wipe. He was released under investigation to allow time for blood test results.


8.10pm – driver stopped on M6 north of Carlisle. He failed a drugs wipe for cannabis. He was released under investigation to allow time for blood test results.


8.45pm – officers spot a HGV driver on his phone on the M6 south of Carlisle. They stop him and he fails a drugs wipe for cannabis. He released under investigation having been arrested for offences including drug driving and possession of drugs.

 

We have dedicated officers targeting the Fatal Four - speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs – 365 days a year.
