Police were called to a one-vehicle collision at the Stainburn bypass, near Workington, just after midnight in the early hours of this morning ( April 20 ).
The collision involved a red Volkswagen Golf.
A man in the car, aged in his forties, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigations were launched and the Stainburn bypass remains closed while enquiries continue today.
The road is expected to be closed for some hours. Drivers are asked to seek alternative routes.
