A man who murdered his four-month-old son has been sentenced for possessing 169 indecent images of children on his mobile phone.

Reece Kelly, formerly of Workington, was sentenced today (28 May) at Carlisle Crown Court for three counts of making indecent images of children.

The indecent images were found by officers from the Constabulary’s Cyber & Digital Crime Unit who were examining Kelly’s mobile phone.

Enquiries established that 29 images were categorised as the highest category of harm – category A.

Kelly pleaded guilty to the offences at an earlier hearing.

Kelly is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his four-month-old son, Dallas Kelly, who died in October 2021.

Judge Nicolas Barker sentenced Kelly to an additional 10-month prison sentence for the indecent images offences, which is added to his minimum term of 18 years.

Detective Constable Mark Ayton said: “Reece Kelly’s offending in relation to indecent images of children was uncovered during the investigation into the murder of his son.

“Our investigation found 169 images of child abuse on his phone.

"Every indecent image of child means that somewhere a child has been a victim of abuse.

"There is no excuse for accessing or sharing these types of images and we will continue to work hard to bring those that do so to justice in order to protect children."
